Firearms 101: Basics of Pistol Shooting

This course may be used for you to obtain your Virginia Concealed Carry Permit and Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL).

This is a 6-hour training course that includes live-fire range training with an instructor.

PART-I: Classroom Training (10:00 am – 2:00 pm)

Learn About:

**Firearm Safety in the Home** Safety is paramount! We’ll cover how to securely store firearms, prevent unauthorized access, and best practices for handling firearms around members of the household, including children and guests.

**Different Types of Pistols** Thinking about which pistol might be the best fit for you? We'll explore an array of pistol types – from revolvers to semi-automatics – discussing features, benefits, and what to consider when making your choice.

**Basics of Ammunition** Understanding ammunition is critical for safe shooting practices. In this section, you’ll learn about the different types of ammunition, their purposes, and how to store them safely.

**Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting** Dive into the core aspects of shooting, including stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control. Through hands-on instruction, you’ll develop a solid foundation for accuracy and confidence in your shooting.

**Gun Cleaning and Maintenance** Maintaining your firearm is vital for safety and performance. We’ll guide you through the process of cleaning and maintaining your pistol, ensuring you keep it in optimal condition.

**How to Maintain Your Skills** Sharpening your skills doesn’t end with the class! We'll share tips on practice routines and other resources to help you continue your training and develop as a proficient shooter.

Part-II: 1:1 Live-fire Range Training

*Range time will be available immediately following class or you may schedule range training for a future convenient day and time.

Upon successful completion of this course, student will receive:

Course Details:

**No Previous Experience Required** Everyone is welcome! Our instructors are here to guide you through every step of the process, regardless of your background.

**Class Time** Join us for a comprehensive 5-hour classroom session from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Enjoy engaging discussions and interactive demonstrations that will enhance your learning experience.

**Optional Same-Day Range Training** Ready to put your skills to the test? After class, join us for optional range training. For those who prefer a later experience, you can easily schedule your range time at your convenience.

**Firearms Available for Use** If you don't own a firearm yet, no worries! We provide firearms for practice during the course, so you can focus on learning without the immediate need to purchase.

  • Pistol with at least one magazine; rentals available

  • Ammunition: 50 rounds FMJ

Ammunition is available for purchase at the range.

NO LIVE AMMUNITION allowed during the classroom portion of training.
